Announcing: “The Tim Ferriss Experiment” on Primetime TV (And How to Join Me)

Home_Run_Baseball_Swing_-_upwave

After ages of planning, I’m VERY excited to share big news with you all.

Starting this December 1st, I will have my own primetime TV show, airing Sundays at 8pm on HLN, formerly known as CNN Headline News. I’m both host and co-executive producer, and I’m currently filming my ass off. It’s all part of a big Turner Broadcasting initiative called Upwave.

Here are the basics:

Name of show: The Tim Ferriss Experiment (TFX)
The premise: Showing viewers how to become superhuman through better tools and tricks, not better genetics.
Easily thought of as: “Anthony Bourdain meets Jason Bourne” or “Jackass meets A Beautiful Mind”
Production company: Zero Point Zero (ZPZ), the team behind Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations and Parts Unknown.
Spirit animal: Ocelot.

Synopsis:

In his #1 bestsellers, “The 4-Hour Workweek,” “The 4-Hour Body” and “The 4-Hour Chef,” Tim Ferriss proposes radically counter-intuitive solutions that take readers from zero to hero in minimal time.

Newsweek calls him “the world’s best human guinea pig,” as he tests the extremes for the rest of us. He believes that nearly any skill can be “hacked” and learned in 1/100th the time most people expect… but can he do it in a matter of days?

The Tim Ferriss Experiment (TFX) will push Ferriss to the breaking point as he attempts just that.

In each episode, Tim will find the world’s most unorthodox teachers and – together — demystify some of the world’s coolest and most dangerous skills. Sometimes he’ll succeed, and other times, he’ll fail spectacularly while risking life and limb.

Tim believes that there is the potential for greatness in every “normal” person, and as he overcomes his own fears each week, he’ll help viewers do the same.

[TIM NOTE: Sorry I can't share exact episodes yet, but just imagine Jason Bourne + my biggest fears + my personal bucket list, all wrapped into one. What would *you* like to see me tackle? Please let me know in the comments, as we still have a few open slots!]

Would you like to join me for a week? Here is one opportunity, which expires tonight (Sorry!) at midnight: Swim with Tim. There will be more fun opportunities if you miss this one.

Next: would you like to interview me about TFX for your TV show, magazine, radio program, podcast, blog, e-mail newsletter, or other? It would mean the world to me, and I have plenty of insider stories and takeaways. If interested in discussing options, please fill out this short form here.

More details coming soon!

Thank you all so much for your support. It’s what keeps me going.

Announcing a global talent search for TED2013 speakers

The best moments at TED have often come from unexpected places. But this year, we’re pushing that to an entirely new level. We’re staging a global talent search to bring together the most remarkable lineup in TED’s history. A series of public auditions in cities around the world will reveal voices, talents and ideas that delight and surprise. As a result, at least half of our TED2013 program will literally be crowd-sourced through what we’re calling the TED2013 Worldwide Auditions.

Public auditions will be happening in 14 countries on six continents — in Amsterdam, Bangalore, Doha, Johannesburg, London, Nairobi, New York, São Paulo, Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo, Tunis and Vancouver — between April and June 2012. The auditions will be official TED events, and we’ve tapped local TEDx organizers in each city to produce.

Online audition applications, which include the option to upload a short video, will be available for each city at least two months before the audition. From those submissions, TED will invite 30 of the best applicants to each audition, where speakers will have 3-6 minutes to deliver a proposed talk in English. Anyone – with the exception of those who have already spoken at an official TED Conference or have a talk on TED.com – is eligible to apply to auditions in his or her nearest city. In some exceptional cases, TED will contribute to travel costs.

Announcing 4 New Workshops

I’m thrilled to announce that registration is officially open for 4 new workshops. That’s 4 totally different workshops, not 4 repeats of the same one.

In addition to doing another Conscious Growth Workshop (CGW #6), we also have brand new workshops on subjective reality, success and achievement, and relationships.

All of these new workshops will be hosted by the Tropicana Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. The Tropicana recently underwent a $200 million renovation, so the hotel and the guest rooms are all nicely upgraded. They’re also offering our workshop attendees a group discount rate on the hotel rooms. The Tropicana is just a few minutes’ drive from McCarran airport, so it’s about as convenient as you can get.

To kick off this new launch, I’m giving you a $100 discount for each of these workshops, so you can save $100 on any one or up to $400 if you decide to attend all four.

This discount is only going to last about 10 days, until July 22, 2011. So if you’re interested in attending, now is the time to make a decision and sign up. This is the lowest price at which I’ve ever offered any workshop, so don’t expect it to come around again if you miss out.

For details on these workshops, either see below, or check out the newly updated Workshops Page.

In creating the new workshop web pages, I decided to go with a fairly minimalist design. So there are no lengthy sales pitches to read through. I put a lot of thought into the layout of these pages to provide you with the essential info cleanly and simply.

Be sure to read through to the end of this post because there are some freebies at the bottom. :)

Conscious Growth Workshop (CGW)

CGW is a highly interactive workshop designed to accelerate your conscious growth across all areas of life — career, finances, health, relationships, and more. The content is loosely based on the book Personal Development for Smart People, but whereas the book was designed to be read, CGW is meant to be experienced. This is an excellent foundational workshop to learn the core fundamentals of conscious growth.

SRW lets you experience what happens when you take the red pill and begin to invite experiences into your life you may have previously believed to be impossible. At SRW you’ll begin to restore your true creative power.

Feb 17-19, 2012
Tropicana Hotel, Las Vegas

CRW is a holistic workshop designed to utterly transform your entire approach to relationships, including everything from how you relate to your coworkers… to how you deal with your relatives… to how you attract and relate to intimate partners. With the knowledge, skills, and direct experience you’ll gain from CRW, you’ll finally be in control of your relationship destiny — no more wishing and hoping for this part of your life to improve.

Save $100 – Register for only $397 until Jul 22, 2011

Last year I gave away some free bonuses to people who registered for CGW. Now I’m making them available free to everyone, whether or not you register for a workshop. See the Free Bonuses page to download them.

I uploaded many more workshop photos and created a new Workshop Photos page to host them all. So far all of the photos are from previous CGWs, including many from the 2010 Halloween workshop (hence the colorful costumes). Check them out if you’re curious to see what a workshop actually looks like.

You may have noticed that I’ve been a little quiet lately when it comes to blogging — this is what I’ve been up to. :)

Hope to see you soon!

Auditions_00085_D32_7621_1280

We’re thrilled to announce the results of our Full Spectrum auditions — TED’s first-ever audition for the main stage of TED2012.

Seventeen finalists gave short TEDTalks in the onstage auditions at New York’s Hiro Ballroom on May 24 (you can watch the archived video stream). An audience of 200 friends voted, using a ranking system of 1 to 5. And the results are:

Audience favorite: Reggie Watts! This boundary-breaking comedian will be speaking at TED2012. His reaction: “Wowie!!”

Three more audience favorites will have their talks posted to TED.com in coming weeks:

BeatJazz inventor and controllerist Onyx Ashanti
Bipolar comedian Joshua Walters
iPad storyteller Joe Sabia

And for a few more audience favorites … we’re exploring projects with them that we’ll announce in the coming months. Watch this space for news.

Announcing the finalists in TED’s Full Spectrum auditions

Last month we announced our first-ever TED auditions, to explore the theme of TED2012: Full Spectrum. The challenge to the TED community: Make a one-minute video that describes your idea worth sharing — and how you’d share it with the world.

We received hundreds of submissions from around the world in our short timeframe, and narrowed our finalists down to a group of 17, with a wide range of formats and styles. Watching through these hundreds of one-minute videos was intriguing, hilarious, occasionally very moving. Most of all, it was inspiring to see how many people are thinking deeply about great ideas and how to share them.

It’s thrilling to announce the list of 17 Full Spectrum audition finalists. They’ll be presenting their auditions on May 24 in New York City, and we’ll be livestreaming the event worldwide. Congratulations to these finalists:

Chris Plough
Virgil Wong
Jess Hobbs
Dr. Jane Rigby and Dr. Amber Straughn
Cesar Kuriyama
James McBennett
Reggie Watts
Kevin Carroll
Joe Sabia
Onyx Ashanti
Eric Singer
LeeAnn Renninger & Tania Luna

Announcing TED Conversations!

We’re thrilled to announce today the launch of TED Conversations, a new social platform on TED.com that connects people for conversation, collaboration and debate. TED Conversations was designed and built from the ground up to foster meaningful conversation among the global community who watch, share and discuss TEDTalks.

Anyone who participates in online communities will find the interface familiar and intuitive. But there are a few unique TED twists:

TED Conversations all fall under 3 categories: Questions, Debates and Ideas. Each can be used to foster a particular type of conversation: By asking a question, you can tap into the expertise of the TED community. By proposing an idea, you can elicit constructive feedback. And by initiating a debate, you can lay out a key issue for spirited discussion.

TED Conversations have an expiration date. We believe that conversations, like talks, benefit from time constraints. So just as TEDTalks are limited to 18 minutes or less, TED Conversations are set to last one day, one week or one month. When you start a conversation, you also decide when it will end; afterward, you can summarize the discussion with a closing statement.

TED Conversations can be linked to specific TEDTalks on TED.com. Users can ask a question, debate an issue or propose an idea that was sparked by watching one or more TEDTalks. This allows a thoughtful exchange among a global community with a shared experience and knowledge base.

TED Conversations can be tagged — and found — by subject. To ease navigation, users can search for specific topics such as “architecture,” “alternative medicine” or “clean energy.”

TED Conversations include speakers and other community rock stars. At launch, TED Conversations includes discussions with TED speakers such as global health expert Hans Rosling, behavioral economist Dan Ariely (author, “Predictably Irrational”), game designer Jane McGonigal (author, “Reality Is Broken”), entrepreneur and marketer Seth Godin (author, “Permission Marketing”, “Tribes”), Rhode Island School of Design president John Maeda (author, “The Laws of Simplicity”), tech gurus Tim O’Reilly and Kevin Kelly, and many more. TED Translators, TED Fellows, TEDx hosts and TED staff are all active on the site.

Start or join a conversation on TED Conversations >>

Or check out these conversations (and dozens more):

Tim O’Reilly asked this question:
William Gibson said “The future is here, it’s just not evenly distributed yet.” What futures have you seen that are here, but unrecognized?

Game designer Jane McGonigal (“Reality is Broken”) started this very active debate:
We spend 3 billion hours a week as a planet playing videogames. Is it worth it? How could it be MORE worth it?

RISD President John Maeda asked:
When will Google’s dominance in search end?

TEDx organizer Zeid Abdul-Hadi (A venture capitalist in Amman, Jordan) asked:
To what extent has social media contributed to the spreading of the People’s revolutions and call for Freedom in Tunisia & Egypt?
(TED Fellows including Ethan Zuckerman and Evgeny Morovoz have replied so far …)
