New York City Meetup and Other Updates

Here are a number of updates regarding upcoming events that may interest you.

First off, I’m heading to New York City on July 24th, and I’ll be there until July 30th. I haven’t been there since 2007, so it’s been a while.

On the weekend I’ll be speaking at Sasha’s Direct Dating Summit. If this type of event interests you — it’s for men looking to improve their dating and social skills — I encourage you to attend. It’s a lot of fun, and as you might expect based on the title, the speakers will help teach you to be direct and honest in your communication instead of being wishy washy, indirect, or phony. That may sound simple, but it’s an area where many people need help. I think the room is nearly filled to capacity already, but there may be a few seats left.

Outside of the conference hours, I intend to host a free NYC meet-up for any growth-oriented people who’d like to attend. Our last NYC meetup was in 2007, and we had 40 people attend, so it wouldn’t surprise me if we had 50+ this time. I’ve received many enthusiastic RSVPs already after mentioning this on social media.

At some of our meet-ups, people can be a little shy warming up to each other. Not so with the New Yorkers though. They dove right in and began talking like they were old friends. That’s one thing I love about New Yorkers — they really know how to talk! :)

Most likely we’ll have the meetup on Friday evening (around 7pm) or on Saturday morning (around 9am). And the most likely location will be somewhere in Central Park, possibly in Sheep Meadow. I’ve also received some suggestions for meet-up spots near Battery Park. I’ll scout out locations early in my trip.

I have to rule out indoor locations like a cafe because we’d most likely swamp the place with too many people. It’s best to have a location where people can move around and mingle and jump in and out of small groups easily.

These meetups are very informal. If you happen to like my work (or even just some parts of it), there’s a good chance you’ll meet plenty of people there that you have a lot in common with.

Usually what happens with the larger meetups is that people split into small groups and mingle through whichever groups interest them. I always find at least one group talking about subjective reality, another group talking about how to make a living without a job, and other people talking about veganism or raw food diets or yoga. Travel is a common topic too. Chances are that whatever topics interest you from my blog, there will be others there who are delighted to discuss those same subjects.

Even if you’re fairly introverted, I don’t think you’ll have a problem. The people who come to these meetups are usually very friendly and welcoming — and huggy!

Speaking of hugs… please do greet each other — and me — with hugs at our meetups unless you have any personal objection to doing so. It helps us create a nice warm and open vibe and makes people feel welcome. Plus it feels good!

I’ll post the specific meetup details to my blog as soon as I have them worked out. With an outdoor meetup I have to watch the weather, which looks like it’s been a bit stormy there this week but will hopefully pass in time for the meetup.

If you’re worried about missing the meetup details post, drop me an email with a request to email you a reminder about the NYC meetup as soon as the details are known (if you haven’t already done so). I’ll try to give as much advance notice as I can, but normally it’s in the 24-48 hours range.

During this trip I’ll be staying in an AirBnB apartment in Williamsburg (in Brooklyn) with some of the other speakers for the summit. The summit itself is in Midtown. I’ll probably be spending most of my waking time in the city.

Last time I was in NYC I didn’t get to see the Met museum, so this time I’m not going to miss it. I already bought a ticket to go see it while I’m in town. I saw MoMa last time I was there.

I’ll only be speaking at the conference for 2-3 hours, so the rest of the time I’ll be going out, connecting with old friends, and making new ones. No doubt this will be a very social trip. :)

In other news, Learning Strategies is running a free PhotoReading Mindfest starting next week. They’ll be streaming their ever popular PhotoReading program over the Internet, so you can listen to it for free on your computer, tablet, or cell phone. I expect they’ll probably offer the recorded version at a discount for anyone who wants a copy to keep.

As part of this Mindfest, you’ll be guided through the process of PhotoReading two complete books, so you won’t just be learning about it — you’ll be applying it too.

This is a nice chance to try PhotoReading for yourself if you haven’t already done so. If you want the details, go to the PhotoReading Mindfest website to sign up.

I’ll also be traveling to Minneapolis August 4-11. This will be my first time in Minnesota. On the weekdays Rachelle and I will be attending Learning Strategies’ Ultimate You Retreat, and then in the evenings we’ll be out fringing at the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Rachelle isn’t performing in any Fringe festivals this year. We’re just going for fun. Last year I saw almost 60 plays at the Winnipeg and Edmonton Fringes, so I’m quite the veteran fringer now. :)

This will be a pretty active trip for us already, but if we can swing it, we’ll try to host a meetup in Minneapolis too. I’ll post details to my blog as soon as they’re known.

Later in August I’m heading to Oslo, Norway to speak at the Morten Hake Summit. This will be my second time speaking there. This conference covers social and relationship skills as well as general personal growth topics, and it’s intended for men and women alike.

You can now watch many of the Morten Hake Summit videos from prior years at MHSummit.com, including (I’ve been told) my full 2-hour talk from last year. In the promo video on the first page, that’s actually me hugging Morten on stage at 1:02 into the video. :)

I probably won’t host a separate Oslo meetup since so many people from the area who are into personal growth will be going to the summit anyway, so that’s already an amazing social opportunity in itself. Last year there were around 150 attendees, and I think this year they’re expecting even more. It’s a great way to meet other growth-oriented people.

This program is still in the works and coming along slowly but beautiful. With all this upcoming travel, I must put it on hold for a while and continue working on it when I can.

In general, whenever I give you a time estimate for when it will actually be done, don’t believe me. :)

But on the other hand, I’ve also leaked out some early material from certain parts of the program in a couple recent articles about goals and personality.

Lately I’ve been feeling strong intuitive pings that it’s time to start booking some new workshops of my own. I’d really love to do them in a variety of cities, but this is a bit too much for me to handle logistically on my own right now.

So I’m putting out the intention of finding someone who’d enjoy working with me as a meeting planner and logistics coordinator. I wouldn’t call it a job per se — I’d label it as more of an adventure for the right type of person — but you’ll be paid for your work of course.

Basically I need someone who can help me schedule, book, and execute more workshops in different cities. I’d prefer to stick with the USA initially, but once we’re up to speed, I’m open to branching out to other continents.

When it comes to delivering live workshops, I’m a stickler for good organization and preparation. So I’d want to work with someone who also has a strong love of good order and solid execution. This means getting things handled in the right order and early. If you’re the kind of person who waits till the last minute to handle critical details, you’d just drive me nuts, and I’d never want to work with you. I always follow a 4-5 page checklist to make sure every detail is attended to in the proper order, so that checklist would be your starting point to use and then to improve upon.

Fortunately this is not likely to be a high pressure situation. Since I normally book workshops at least 3 months before they’re delivered, there’s plenty of time to attend to all the details properly.

I’ve already done nine 3-day workshops, and all of them have gone smoothly. I can train someone on all the specific skills they’d need to know, but it would really help to have someone who brings additional experience and expertise to the table, such as prior experience with event planning, booking venues, negotiating meeting agreements, people skills, etc. Some event marketing experience would be helpful too, but marketing isn’t as big of a concern for me as it is for others in this field. Strong demand for new workshops has never been a problem.

Much of the work could be done from anywhere, such as by using the Internet to research potential venues. But I also want someone who has the freedom to travel and who can be physically present at the workshops to help execute them. If we book workshops in 10 different cities, it means you’ll be going to those 10 cities with me. So this definitely isn’t a virtual assistant position that could be done entirely from one location. If you can’t or won’t travel, don’t bother inquiring.

This wouldn’t be a good fit for someone who’s socially timid. During a live event, minor problems occasionally arise, and I need someone who can interface with the venue staff and advocate for our needs. So if it’s too hot or cold in our meeting room, for instance, I need a proactive person who can get that handled ASAP.

Ultimately I’d like to find someone who could eventually manage nearly all of the details of putting on a workshop other than creating and delivering the content. So I could say, “Let’s do workshops in these cities this year,” and the planner would select appropriate dates, find suitable venues, negotiate the details, book the dates with the venues, post the workshop details to my website, set up the event in the shopping cart, handle questions from attendees, secure an audio tech and rent equipment if necessary, print the badges, pack up everything we need for the trip, book our travel and accommodations, travel with me to the venue when it’s time to deliver the workshop, make sure the room is set up properly, manage the registration table, and help out during the workshop itself.

It may sound like a lot of work for one person, but it’s really not bad if you follow an organized approach. Once you’ve been through the process a few times, it gets faster and easier to repeat it. For some workshops I’ve done all of these tasks myself — in addition to creating and delivering the content — and it was very manageable. I actually enjoy this kind of work too.

If this interests you, let me know. Tell me about yourself, your relevant interests, your work experience, and anything else you’d like to share. If you seem like a potential fit, we can schedule a video-Skype call to talk about it in more detail. Just be aware that with my upcoming trips, I may not be very quick at following up right away, especially if there’s a lot of interest.

Depending on your experience, we might start with something simple, like doing another Vegas workshop first. That wouldn’t require special travel arrangements for me, and I already have contacts at some venues here, so it would be an easy way to begin and see how you’re able to handle it. If that goes well, then we can gradually ramp it up with events in other cities. But with someone who doesn’t require much training (or who impresses me with their organizational skills fairly quickly), I imagine we could turn this into a full-time arrangement from the beginning.

One of the benefits of such work is that you’ll definitely meet a lot of very growth-oriented people, and you’ll surely take part in many transformational experiences on this path.

New York City Meetup Details

Here are the details for the New York City meetup that I mentioned in the last post.

When: Friday, July 26, 2013 at 6:30pm (usually these meetups last for around 2 hours)

Where: Sheep Meadow, Central Park, New York City (map showing exact location, the pin shows the spot)

Who: Anyone who’s interested in personal growth and wants to meet like-minded people

Why: See the last post for details on why you may want to attend if you can.

We’ll meet on top of the hill in the southwest part of Sheep Meadow, which in on the west side of Central Park, within easy walking distance of Columbus Circle. It’s not far from a subway station. If you need directions, you can click the map link above and use Google Maps to plot your course. It can provide navigation directions using public transportation if you need that.

It will probably be cool and a bit breezy, and there’s a small chance of rain. There are plenty of trees nearby that we can use for cover if necessary though. But I’d recommend dressing warm.

There is a public restroom nearby on the north side of the meadow.

The meadow has a fence around it, but there are various gates that should be open. The closest one is directly west of the meetup location, in the west-most corner of the meadow. If you go through that entrance, just follow along the fence to your right up the hill.

If anything is messed up with the meetup location, such as if there happen to be a bunch of other people in that spot, the meadow is big enough that we should be able to move to a decent spot nearby. And if for whatever reason the gates are locked, just meet at the western gate, and we’ll find another spot in the park nearby.

If we do need to adjust the meetup spot, I’ll mention any changes or updates on my Twitter account, so be sure to check there if you have any issues finding us.

While an indoor meetup might be better considering the weather, it’s unpredictable how many people might show up. I’d expect at least 40, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we had double that. This could very well be our biggest meetup ever.

If you know anyone else who’d enjoy this, feel free to invite them.

See you tomorrow if you’re able to make it! :)

London Meet-up Details – May 19

Now that I’m in the UK, the Brits tell me I won’t be allowed to leave unless we have a social meet-up here. So let’s make it so! Here are the details of our first-ever London meet-up.

Date: Sunday, May 19, 2013

Time: 2:00 pm (14:00)

Location: In the Royal Festival Hall of Southbank Centre, Level 2, in the seating area across from the Riverside Terrace Cafe. Riverside is literal in this case since we’ll be on the river side of the building on the South bank of the Thames, so you’ll see the river if you look out the windows from the meet-up area. This is a public indoor space (the building is open from 10am to 11pm), so there will likely be other people in the area who aren’t with our group. Look for Rachelle and me somewhere in this area, or watch for a gathering group of mostly 20- and 30-somethings. Here’s the exact location via Google maps. We’re a short distance from the London Eye.

Price: Free

There’s a snack bar near the meet-up spot, so you can get drinks and food there too if you wish.

Within the past few weeks, we’ve hosted meet-ups in Berlin and Amsterdam, each with 25-30 attendees. Since London is a much bigger city, it wouldn’t surprise me if we had a significantly bigger turnout here. Our biggest ever free meet-up was about 40 people in New York City, but that was back in 2007. So this one could potentially be a record-breaker.

A meet-up is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded people who share your interest in conscious personal growth. A comment I frequently hear at our meet-ups is: I had no idea there were so many people like me out there. It’s so great to connect with people who think like I do.

Sure you can “meet” people online, but it’s much more fun and fulfilling to get away from the computer and connect like a real human being. Share stories and laughs in person instead of reading comment streams. Hugs always beat smilies.

If you feel socially awkward, this is a chance to stretch yourself; feel awkward and show up anyway.

It isn’t unusual for a few people to travel from other cities (even other countries) to attend one of these meet-ups. Some people really like being around this kind of energy, even if only for a short time.

Usually our meet-ups last 2-3 hours, but our Berlin one lasted 6-7 hours, so who knows? As long as people want to keep hanging out, it’s fine to stick around. The building is open till 11pm. Of course you’re free to leave whenever you desire.

Meet-ups have no formal agenda. They’re purely social — a chance to meet other locals and make new friends. We basically hang out, move around, mingle, and talk about what interests us. These meet-ups are simple, but for the purpose they serve, simple usually works very well.

Quite often someone from each meet-up will create a Facebook group or gather people’s email addresses (totally voluntary), so those who wish to stay in touch afterwards can do so easily.

If you do come to the meetup, try to be there roughly on time. We don’t always stay in the same spot, so if you’re very late, we might not still be in the original location.

If anything goes wrong with our chosen meet-up spot, like if it’s hugely crowded or unavailable for some reason, scout for us nearby, or check twitter.com/stevepavlina for a status update.

I normally prefer an outdoor meet-up location like a park — Regent’s Park had some beautiful spots — but the London weather has been so wonky that I’d rather play it safe and go indoors this time. Today it was sunny, cloudy, rainy, and cold/windy at different times of the day. I have no idea what the weather will be like at the time of our meet-up, but at least indoors, bad weather won’t be a problem. Of course another advantage of our indoor location is that they have public restrooms there (which can be scarce elsewhere in London).

If this meet-up interests you and if the location is accessible for you, please come join Rachelle and me in London, meet other locals, talk about personal growth, and make some new friends. And be sure to hug us when you see us — and hug each other too — none of that handshake crap!

Just be aware that I’m American, so according to my travel guide, there’s a high probability that you’ll perceive me as loud, obnoxious, impolite, uncivilized, superficially friendly, and a bit naive.

God save the Queen!

Update May 18th: I’ve been getting feedback from some people who are on the fence about going to Sunday’s London meet-up for various reasons, so let me make it easy for you to decide whether or not to go.

If you’re not sure if this will be worthwhile for you, if it seems too inconvenient, or if there’s something else you’d rather do at that time, then I’d recommend that you skip the meet-up.

Generally the people who go to these meet-ups are delighted to have the chance to connect with other like-minded individuals, and they wouldn’t want to miss it. For these people, the decision to go is pretty obvious and easy — they make it a priority to show up. They might feel a little nervous if they’re not sure what to expect, but they can intuitively sense that it’s important for them to be there. Quite often they experience synchronicities to validate this belief before, during, or after the meet-up.

These meet-ups work best when the people who attend are those who really want to be there. Quality of interaction is a lot more important than the quantity of people who show up. It’s nice to have a big group when possible, and I expect we’ll have a great turnout for London, but I’d rather connect with a dozen people who are delighted to go… as opposed to three dozen where 2/3 of them had to push or drag themselves to show up.

So if you’re going to go, then show up because you really want to meet and interact with other growth-oriented people in London. Please don’t bother going if you’re only capable of attending as social dead weight.

If you consider yourself an introvert or if you feel a bit shy about meeting new people, that’s no problem at all. Since everyone is there to meet new people, I think you’ll find it easy to connect. For the larger meet-ups, people usually break off into smaller groups and have conversations on specific topics that interest them, such as subjective reality, 30-day trials, sleep experiments, creating an online business, etc.

If Sunday rolls around and you’re still on the fence or if you just don’t feel motivated to go, I’d suggest staying home. By opting out when you’re hesitant to participate, you’ll be showing greater respect towards the people who genuinely desire to be there, giving them the chance to interact with other like-minded people who are equally inspired to connect and share.

There’s a special energy created when conscious, growth-oriented people come together and interact with a strong desire to connect. If you’re a match for that kind of experience, then you already know you’re going to show up. But if this sort of thing doesn’t inspire you, then please spend your time doing something that does inspire you, even if it means staying home and watching football.

Amsterdam Meet-up Details – May 4

I’m currently in the Netherlands, and I’m hosting a social meet-up in Amsterdam this Saturday. Here are the details.

Date: Saturday, May 4, 2013

Time: 2:00 pm (14:00)

Location: In front of a statue in Vondelpark (exact location)

Why a meet-up? When I travel I often receive requests from locals who want to get together and meet in person. Some people also ask me how to find others nearby who share their interest in personal growth (or some specific aspect of personal growth). Meet-ups are a nice way to bring people together who might otherwise never connect.

Meeting people face to face is also my preferred version of social media. Hugs are better than smilies.

If this interests you and if the meet-up location is accessible for you, please come join Rachelle and me in Vondelpark, meet other locals, talk about personal growth, and make some new friends. And be sure to hug us when you see us. :)

This is our first time in Holland. We’re currently staying with friends in Waddinxveen. I can’t pronounce it, but it’s beautiful here. Our friends even have their own horses!

We spent some time in Wageningen and the Grebbeberg today, including driving and walking around the beautiful countryside and visiting a Dutch windmill.

Saturday will likely be our first day in Amsterdam (unless we go there on Friday too). We might also be in Amsterdam on Sunday, perhaps to see some of the Liberation Day festivals, but there are no plans for other meet-ups after Saturday.

It might rain a litte, but it shouldn’t be too bad. If it rains we can always duck under some nearby trees.

Based on the number of emails I’ve received, this could potentially be a pretty big meetup. Depending on how many people show up and how crowded it is in the park, we might move to the nearby Blue Tea House after a while. The tea house is a short walk southwest from the statue. So if you do come to the meetup, try to be there roughly on time. We don’t always stay in the same spot.

We had a great turnout at our Berlin meet-up last week. I expected 10-20, but almost 30 people showed up… including some who traveled from as far as Denmark, Austria, and Romania. Some people stayed for 6-7 hours. I don’t expect the Amsterdam meet-up to be that long since we’d like to explore some of the city too that afternoon, but you might want to bring some drinks and snacks just in case it turns into something very social and you feel like sticking around for a while.

Hope to see you there if you can make it.

Bewust leven! :)

Edmonton Meet-up

Rachelle and I are in Edmonton, Alberta for the Fringe Festival, and there’s been some interest in having a local meet-up, so let’s have one!

Here are the details:

When: 11:00 AM on Sunday, August 26, 2012

Where: Meet at the gazebo at the NE corner of 83rd Ave NW and 104th St NW. This is very close to Fringe HQ at the TransAlta Arts Barns, and it’s next to the main outdoor stage area. The area should be fairly empty since the outdoor shows don’t begin till 12:15pm.

Depending on how many people show up (we’d expect around 5-10), weather conditions (it should be cool but hopefully not too cold), and how crowded the area is, we may sit down at one of the nearby picnic tables or move to another spot like a nearby Starbucks to chat. If we move locations, we’ll wait at the gazebo till at least 11:15am.

These meet-ups are ultra-casual, and Rachelle and I are very friendly, so please just walk right up and hug us when you see us! I’ll probably be wearing jeans and a gray hoodie — just like every other Edmontonian. ;)

I’m loving the Fringe. This is my 5th Fringe Festival but the first time in Edmonton. Rachelle and I have seen 25 plays here so far. I expect we’ll hit 30 by the end of it.

If you’re looking for good Fringe shows to see, some of my favorites include Olymprov, Harold of Galactus, Peter ‘n Chris and the Mystery of the Hungry Heart Motel, No Tweed Too Tight, Die Roten Punkte, The Adversary, and House of Dopes.

Paris Meet-up

Here are the details for the Paris meet-up if you’re in the area and would like to hang out for a couple hours.

Date: Sunday, Aug 7, 2011

Time: 19:00 (7:00pm)

Location: Jardin des Tuileries (near the Louvre) at this exact location. There’s a fountain on the east side of the garden, and we’ll be meeting to the west of that fountain, next to the statue of the guy who’s missing a key male body part. :)

Metro: If you’re arriving by Metro, the closest stations are Tuileries and Palais Royal / Musée du Louvre.

There are lots of green chairs throughout the gardens, especially at this location, so we should be able to carve out a spot. I walked past that location 24 hours before the meet-up time, and there was virtually no one there.

If for some reason our selected location is unavailable, just look for us nearby.

The weather should be cool with a small chance of rain, so hopefully it won’t rain on us. I’ll be there no matter what though. The weather for the rest of our visit looks like it will be off-and-on rainy much of the time, so one day seems as good as any other, and I figure that the weekend would be better for most people. There are some trees nearby to provide cover from the rain.

The reason I didn’t go with an indoor location is that we never know how many people will attend these meet-ups since there’s no RSVPing in advance. In the past we’ve gotten anywhere from 12 to 40, and if lots of people show up, then we risk overwhelming an indoor spot. The gardens should be really nice if we can dodge the rain.

Worst-case, if we end up caught in a downpour, we’ll hang out till about 19:20 to wait for any stragglers, and then we’ll duck into the Carousel shops area below the Louvre grounds. So if it’s raining, try to get to our meet-up spot before 19:20 at the latest; otherwise go down the stairs by the Carousel Arc, and look for us down there somewhere… but good luck finding us because it’s a huge place.

There’s no structure for these meet-ups. We just casually hang out and chat with whomever shows up. Please be aware that my French is pretty limited though, although I can speak English and Franglais fairly well. :)

Usually we hang out for about 90 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how many people show up.

This is the first European meet-up I’ve ever done, so I’m really looking forward to it. Rachelle will be there too.

Las Vegas Picnic Meetup This Sunday

Since we have a holiday weekend coming up (Memorial Day), I thought it would be fun to host a picnic-in-the-park meetup for any followers of my blog in Las Vegas who’d like to get together and hang out and be social.

Here are the details:

Date: Sunday, May 29, 2011

Time: 6:00 pm

Location: North Tower Park in Summerlin (45 Park Vista Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89135), see Google map of location. Nearest freeway exit is Far Hills (from the 215). Let’s meet at the picnic tables in the cluster of palm trees in the middle of the park (should be easy to spot).

Feel free to bring your family, kids, dogs, slaves (on a leash please), etc. There are free parking spaces wrapping around the south side of the park.

I figured an early evening meetup would be best since it might be hot during the day, and I want people to feel comfortable. The weather has been shifting a lot lately, so it’s hard to tell. The current forecast predicts a high of 76 on Sunday, but the surrounding days are supposed to be much hotter, so who knows if that will be accurate.

Let’s make it BYOFAD (bring your own food and drink). If you want to bring extra food to share or barter, that’s entirely up to you. My blog attracts people with all sorts of different diets, so I figured it’s best if we don’t overcomplicate things. This week I’ve been eating 100% raw.

Hopefully Sunday won’t be one of those super windy days we’ve been having this month. If it is very windy, bring heavier food. :)

I have no idea who else might plan to go to the park that day, so if it’s already crowded near the picnic tables, we can sit on the grass near the tables instead. There are 4 tables in the middle of the park, and each table can comfortably seat 8 people.

This park has a nice big grassy area in the middle. You’re encouraged to bring anything you might enjoy on a picnic such as Frisbees, games, etc. There are also kids’ playground areas on both sides of the meetup location.

I can’t predict how many people will show up, so I’ll remain detached from outcomes and see what happens. If we get 30 people, we’ll have a nice party. If no one shows up, I’ll just eat by myself and feel sad and unloved. :(

There’s no need to RSVP. Either show up or don’t.

In other news I’m currently in talks with a couple Vegas hotels about booking some more live workshops. I’ll be checking out potential meeting rooms next week. The earliest I’d schedule any workshops would be in the Fall. If you want to be notified when new workshops are announced, be sure to sign up for the free newsletter. No promises yet, but I’ll keep you posted.

Whether you’re able to attend this meetup or not, have a great Memorial Day weekend. And if Memorial Day means nothing to you, then you’ll have to wallow in your own greatness this weekend. :)

Winnipeg Meet-up on Dec 29

Rachelle and I are hosting a meet-up in Winnipeg, Canada on Wednesday, Dec 29th at 2pm at The Forks. If you’re in the area, you’re welcome to hang out with us for a while, meet new people, and chat about life, the universe, and everything.

Look for us in one of the seating areas near the Human Bean coffee place on the ground floor (it’s on the SW corner of the building). We’ll probably be on the side near the Fish & Chips place, but we may move to the other side if it’s crowded there.

I can’t predict how many people will show up, but I’m guessing it will be less than 10.

I seem to like the cold weather here, maybe since my ancestry is from Eastern Europe. It’s like having a shot of espresso each time I venture outside. :)

Las Vegas Men’s Group Meetup Dec 7th

On Tuesday, December 7th, I’ll be hosting a men’s group meetup in Las Vegas. If you won’t be in Las Vegas on Dec 7th, or if you’re female, you can stop reading now since the rest of this post won’t be relevant to you.

The meetup will be led by Peter Myers, who has experience with men’s groups in New Zealand.

Peter and I met for the first time last Friday and had a fascinating conversation about life, the universe, and everything. When he told me about his men’s group, I felt it would be a cool thing to try in Las Vegas, so we decided to make it happen while he’s in town.

I’ve never attended any men’s groups before, so this will be a new experience for me as well.

Basically we’ll meet in the basement of a local bar, take our shirts off, and fight each other till we’re bloody.

Ok, perhaps not.

I’ve heard reports of strange happenings at some men’s groups, but this one won’t be like Fight Club or anything over the top, so no need to worry.

This is an opportunity for a bunch of guys to come together and candidly discuss our lives and challenges… and to do this without any women present. I can’t offer much more detail since this will be a first for me too.

If you wish to attend, aim to show up at 6:30pm on Dec 7th. We’ll mingle and meet each other for a bit. Then we’ll kick off the actual meeting at 7pm.

Peter will start by explaining how his men’s group works, what they do, and the value he gains from attending. He’ll answer any questions that come up as he shares his experiences.

Then we’ll go for about an hour (depending on how many people show up) as we aim to create the space that Peter describes. I believe this part involves taking turns sharing what’s coming up in our lives.

After that we’ll break for some snacks. Then we’ll come back and discuss our topic for the night. Current plans are to discuss the potential for forming and maintaining a regular men’s group in Las Vegas. If enough of us find value in this, I’m open to keeping this group going after Peter leaves town. But I want to see what it’s like before I commit to anything.

The location will be in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas near the Red Rock Casino (Charleston & the 215). The exact address will be given to those who confirm they’ll be there.

There’s no cost and no catch. It’s free to attend, and (vegan) snacks will be provided.

Since I’ve never done this before, I can’t predict how many guys will want to attend. If there’s a lot of interest, we’ll probably cap it at 30 guys max to keep the group manageable.

So if you’re a guy who will be in Las Vegas on the evening of Dec 7th, and if this sounds interesting to you, you’re welcome to join us. This is mainly intended for Vegas locals, but if you’ll be in town then and want to go, that’s fine with me. Just be sure to RSVP in advance to let us know you’re coming and to get the address. And please don’t RSVP unless you’re sure you’ll be there on time. If you RSVP and flake on us, then (1) you may end up displacing someone else who really wanted to be there if we had to cap it, and (2) you’ll be on the hit list for Project Mayhem.

Please RSVP directly to Peter (not to me), and direct any questions to him as well. You can email him at mensgroupvegas@gmail.com.

And remember — you do NOT talk about men’s group! ;)
